In 2007, PSRF began collaborating with Kitsap Trees and Shoreline Association and other community partners to identify specific restoration projects and initiate larger-scale shoreline restoration along the north shore of Sinclair Inlet.
Project goals include:
- Improve public access to Sinclair Inlet,
- Restore functional habitat where possible, and
- Re-vegetate the shoreline with native plants to reduce storm water pollution in the Inlet.
In January 2008, with assistance from the Suquamish Tribe, PSRF funded an Eagle Scout project to restore habitat and improve Sinclair Inlet SR-304 at the USN Missouri Gate entrance on U.S. Navy property. Restoration activities included removing Scotch Broom, enhancing the poor/rocky glacial soil with rich compost/mulch and planting native vegetation donated by WSDOT to help reduce nonpoint source pollution from the highway and nearby roads.
In August 2008, PSRF joined an Advisory Committee to help develop a shoreline and restoration design for the north shore of Sinclair Inlet that can be used to launch improvement efforts and obtain additional funding. The project is being coordinated by Kitsap Trees and Shoreline Association through a National Park Service Planning Assistance Grant.
